Bammy's Dad

dir. Marc Dickerson & Rob Malone

9:30 minutes

"Bammy's Dad" is a short about father and son.  I wrote the script years ago with two completely different actors in mind, and when my friend/collaborator Rob Malone read it he really pushed for it to get made.  The script didn't change much from what it was years ago.  I'm not sure what I was thinking then (or where the name "Bammy" came from), and I'm still not really sure now.  I like it, though. Maybe the fact that it essentially went from my brain to what you see on screen is what I like the most about it.   I think it is visually and thematically very interesting and it has an odd, surreal atmosphere which is what I am always trying to achieve.  And the two actors who ended up playing the two main roles (Rob's dad and brother), make it into something even more with their great and original performances.  Even though it may not seem like it, it is oddly personal in several different abstract ways.  But I won't bore you with any of that.  Basically, it is about the human brain, and genes, and family rituals.  It is about Bammy and Bammy's dad.

About Marc Dickerson

Marc Dickerson is a filmmaker/writer/alright guy from Philadelphia, specializing in, oh, I guess you could call them dark comedies.  Is "Realistic Absurdity" a thing?  If it is, then that may best describe what he does.  Or maybe "Depressing Optimism".  Or "Entertaining Boredom".  Or "Comical Tragedies".  Whatever his stuff is, contradictions abound.  He hopes that these disjointed ramblings from his brain end up being at least somewhat entertaining or thought-provoking to others.  When it's all said and done, though, his love for genuine b-movies, 90s comedies, Woody Allen, visually complex horror films, German Expressionism, the Kids in the Hall, broadway and off-broadway musicals, David Mamet's words, and David Lynch movies, make for a weird mix of inspirational stew that influences his work.  But if you asked him, he'd probably just say, "I just want to make something funny and different."  He is also really into eating food.
